On behalf of Challenges Foundation, I want to thank you for visiting our site. It has been an honor for me to be elected once again to be the President in 2016, and take the recreation therapy sailing program forward.
We have seen many changes over the last year, and all pointing towards positive growth for our organization and a larger circle of service to our community. Most notably, the vessel we had been using for our sea outings – the Emerald – is out of the water and awaiting her much anticipated refit. In the meantime, we have were honored to have Trenton Carroll of Cruising Yachts in the marina join our Board of Directors. He has graciously invited us to sail with him on a 45’ Jennneau from his brokerage. We are all grateful to Mr. Carroll for helping our sailing program to continue here in Marina del Rey.
The peaceful nature of sailing on the ocean has documented effects on PTSD patients, as well as practically anyone willing to take the time to embrace it. In addition to local recreation therapy vets programs, we also serve several disabled persons groups, community youth, girl scouts, and many others that may benefit from an outing at sea. Our board members and staff are all volunteer, and this non-profit organization is supported by donations of regular people – just like you and me. Your tax deductible donation helps us to continue this program and gives these men and women a much needed new perspective in civilian society.
I thank you for visiting us, and for supporting this very worthy cause.
