Each month, Veterans Administration sends groups of disabled Veterans to Marina Del Rey for a day of sailing and to experience the open ocean. For some, it is the first time ever on the water. Challenges Foundation also serves our community youth, senior citizens, disabled individuals and other people who may not have opportunities to participate in sailing, to experience the unique ocean environment, to feel the power of being under sail on a majestic boat or on a small yacht or power catamaran. Each program is specifically fine-tuned for each group.

In 1998, Challenges Foundation was founded by the late Mr. Nicholas Coster, a well-seasoned actor, avid mariner, and dedicated supporter of our U.S. Veterans. Concerned about the well-being of these brave, returning soldiers, Nicholas believed that the open ocean and the sense of freedom could be a healing and peaceful experience.

For the past several decades, all of the Veterans who have sailed with Challenges have had expressed their appreciation for the experience on the ocean and the time with other veterans. It has helped them in their return to civilian life.
